There are now altogether 4500 periodicals of natural science and technology in China, among which over 1000 journals are related to seismological studies and over 30 technical journals are monographic for earthquake studies. The technical journals and publications of earthquake studies are the inevitable component in the course of seismic hazard prevention and reduction of China. In the past 30 years or more, they have been developing with the development of seismic hazard prevention and reduction of China, and it is the important media reflecting the scientific and technical level of seismic hazard prevention and reduction of China, and also the important academic forum for earthquake studies and the important communication channel with foreign countries in the field of earthquake studies and seismic hazard prevention and reduction.

I. THE DEVELOPMENT AND UPDATE STATUS OF THE SEISMOLOGICAL AND TECHNICAL JOURNALS

Prior to the 1966 Xingtai major earthquake, there were no monographic and seismological journals in China, and in the field of geo-science, the “Acta Geophysica” which was created in 1948 is more related to earthquake studies, and it is the most early academic journal of  geophysics, mainly publishing solid geophysics, applied geophysics, space geophysics and atmosphere, marine geophysics and some papers of crossing disciplines and creative research results closely related to geophysics. It is a representative journal in geo-science of China and enjoys an international prestige in the field of geo-science, and it is collected by the well-known international retrieve systems. Since 2000, the “Acta Geophisica”(English edition) has been issued by the American Geophysical Union (AGU) through its internet edition.

After the 1966 Xingtai earthquake, the first seismological journal “The Front of Earthquake Studies” (now, changed its fitle as “Earthquake”) was created. Later on, in development of  seismic research, earthquake prediction and seismic hazard prevention and reduction, quite a number of seismological journals have been successively created. Up-to-date, the publication of seismological journals has formed a system covering different disciplines and different regions of China. Now over 30 seismological journals (see Table 1) are managed by different departments and agencies of seismological system, and they could issue yearly more than 2500 papers, technical reports and integrated information, thus forming a basic carrier of storage and accumulation, communication and exchange of seismological research and results.
